Frequently Asked Questions
Is Myofascial Massage painful?
Myofascial Massage does not have to be painful!  The methods I use call for as little discomfort as possible - if your body is tensing up with pain, it's actually interfering with our work.

Because it's my intention to work within your comfort level, I will be frequently asking you about the pressure levels being used, and I hope that you will let me know if you experience discomfort at any time, so that I can make the necessary adjustments.

Treating Trigger Points may involve experiencing some tenderness, but the process only requires a small amount of discomfort - if the treatment causes your body to tense up and resist, than I need to use less pressure.

What should I wear?
For the intake phase of the session, I can do most postural and movement assessments regardless of what you're wearing.

For the actual massage, I will ask that you only disrobe to your level of comfort. I can work through most clothing, although I can use more techniques and have more sensitive palpation when working directly with your skin. Once on the table, I use full draping to maintain your dignity, warmth, and modesty, only uncovering those areas that are currently being addressed.

How Much Time Should I Schedule?
If you are looking for pain relief or improving mobility, 60 or 90 minute sessions are best, especially for the first session, because it allows enough time for assessment and integrating the changes with the rest of your body, as well as time for treating difficult areas.

If you are just looking for a relaxation oriented massage, 60 minutes will generally get you the best results.

The very short sessions are by permission only, and best for people who are either going through an Intensive Treatment series, or who simply can't afford anything else. If you would like to schedule a session shorter than 60 minutes, please contact me with a description of your goals and desires for treatment time, and we can discuss the options.
